At this time of year, most of us start strong β full of vision boards, excitement, and beautiful goals for 2026. But thenβ¦ life happens.
Energy shifts, doubts creep in, and inspired momentum suddenly feels heavy. Science confirms this is normal: gym attendance plummets by mid-January ("Quitter's Day" ~Jan 19), with habits taking a median 59-66 days to form β the exact window when new patterns test us.
I know this intimately, and at the same time I know the surprise of goals coming true yet feeling wrong.
Either way, the message is clear: misalignment!
Whether you're struggling to start or shocked by "success," this heart-centered guide offers fresh perspectives for soul-aligned goal-setting.
Let me share a story.
π§οΈ When "Success" Felt Like Chains
As an account manager in my former 9-5, I set a crystal-clear goal: "Land a major client for the company within 1 month."
SMART perfection (by "the book") β specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound.
I executed flawlessly: cold calls, presentations, follow-ups, relationship building. One month later? Major client signed! High-fives all around. But shortly after, it felt wrong. This "dream account" became a pea in the a*s β endless stress, draining meetings, clashing values.
I hit the target but lost my smile: I said to myself "If this is success, I want no part of it".
How could achieving a goal feel so restraining and disempowering? I followed the books perfectly!
β‘ Heart-Centered Discovery
This "win" was a wake-up call.
I dove deeper into goal-setting, discovering SMART delivers results, but without soul alignment, they ring hollow.
Goals aren't about force β they're value alignment and heart-centered creation.
I committed to change once more:
π Goal-Setting Checklist: Align for Lasting Success
1. Taking Responsibility
Responsibility means "the ability to respond" β ONLY YOU own achieving your goals. Take action and stay aware of consequences, responding in the highest way possible.
Differentiate between Consequences and Punishment.
Sometimes we associate "consequence" with punishment β something unpleasant, fear-based, rough treatment to make us afraid of doing something.
My definition: Consequence is an effect, an outcome. This teaches us to take responsibility and grow β if we choose to.
2. Check the WHY β Your True Motivation
Is it toward what makes your heart sing, improving your life meaningfully? Or away from pain/inconveniences?
Away-motivation fuels short bursts but not long-lasting change. Goals anchored in values are magickal.
If you are moving toward a value aligned goal, you are moving towards your shining North Star guiding through challenges.
3. State Goals Positively
The brain does not understand "NOT" β say "I am healthy" not "I'm not sick." Same for affirmations/self-talk: state positively.
Distinguish goal vs state:
Goals are measurable/quantifiable in some way.
4. Eustress Check & Where Are You Now?
Assess: Is this achievable and an exciting challenge?
Differentiate between:
Check where you are right now and see how near/far you are to your goal.
5. Take Aligned Action
Take direct action leading immediately towards your goal.
Give yourself grace while taking actionβ no forcing/pushing/drain. Consistency and discipline are key.
Discipline is often associated with βpunishmentβ.
The word come from Latin "disciplina" = instruction/knowledge, "discipulus" = learner.
Discipline to me means that we learn to utilize knowledge which leads to WISDOM. Aligned actions, taking responsibility for our behavior β leads to consistency. Furthermore, it is an act of self-love, it's a way to allow my light to shine brighter.
Shift "I MUST" to:
Discipline hack: Tune internally into your WHY, gaze at the vision board/post its and let your heart sing.
6. Milestone Setting
How do you track progress? Examine your definition and beliefs around βsuccessβ.
Tune into the word and Body-check. How does it feel like? Expanding or restraining?
My definition of success: Growth, expansion, transformation, learning β not outcome-tied.
Undesirable result? Lection Learned = success!
Milestones motivate step-by-step.
Remember: Everything is information. Asking Whatβs the lesson? may lead to deeper insights. All is success!
7. Ecology of the Goal
Consider the impact of your goal on your environment/people close to you β journey AND arrival.
Back to responsibility: actions/decisions lead to consequences.
Consequence β punishment (fear-based unpleasantness).
Through this heart-centered approach, amazing things unfolded β not by doing things by βthe bookβ, but tuned to my heart's truth and aligned to my values.
We can achieve much; question: is it soul-aligned or ego-driven?
π Elevated Life: Embodying Joyful Goals
Today, I feel blessed living a life that's not just about achieving goals, but embodying them.
The energy behind each intention feels light, aligned, and abundant. Now I get to help others rediscover that connection β dreams/goals don't need pressure; they need presence.
I am blessed to guide others to realize that dreams thrive on presence, not pressure. π«
Whenever you set a goal, reflect:
Remember: Everything is information that needs understanding. Reconnect, donβt push. Your WHY nourishes clarity, compassion and conscious action. πΈ
