Embracing Sensitivity: My Healing Journey

Embracing Sensitivity: My Healing Journey

Hello there, my name is Carolina and I want to welcome you to this blog.

You might be here because you are interested in sensitivity, personal growth, and healing. You may even identify as a Highly Sensitive Person or Empath.

Before we dive into those topics, I want you to get to know me better so you can understand why they are so important to me.

I grew up in what some may call a highly educated environment, where good grades, intelligence, good manners, and behaving the way adults told children to behave were expected. In this environment, information was highly valued: reading books, reading the newspaper, watching the news, and studying for school. The bookshelves were filled with works on mathematics, poetry, biology, and even books by Dr. Brian Weiss and Dr. Raymond A. Moody about past lives and reincarnation, as well as esoteric books like the “Tibetan Book of the Dead.”

That is one of the reasons that today I like to differentiate:

there is Information = Light = an invitation to lift “the veil” – the veil of ignorance (which, by definition, simply means we ignore or don’t know something; there is no judgment in that word per se).

Then there is the Understanding of the information, which leads to Knowledge = this is us letting the light shine through the veil, like the early morning sun shining through the window and curtains, showing us a new beginning that we just need to open our arms to and embrace.

Once we start applying the Knowledge we have acquired, while utilizing our discernment, we begin to embrace that Knowledge as part of our lived experience—and wisdom is born. This is where “the veil” is lifted…

What was not highly valued was sensitivity.

Sensitivity is a natural variation in how individuals respond to their environments. What we call the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) is termed “sensory processing sensitivity” in scientific language (thanks to Dr. Elaine Aron, who coined this term), and describes a temperament trait characterized by deeper processing of information, heightened emotional reactivity, and increased sensitivity to external and internal stimuli.

If you’d like to dive deeper into the science behind sensitivity and the Highly Sensitive Person, I’ve created a YouTube playlist with research‑based videos and explanations:

Scientific Explorations – HSP Playlist.

My sensitivity was seen as a weakness.

When I had my first “download,” telling me that something had gone wrong on Earth, that I was here to help fix that, and that we were all supposed to be friends (in the words of a child), I ran to one of my caregivers and asked what this information was about. I didn’t understand and I was confused, hoping to find answers and comfort.

Instead, I was sat down rather ungently on the couch and told that the world is the way it is—which is hard—and that I needed to be even harder, otherwise the world would crush me.

That was the last time I openly spoke about any information I received that I perceived as “different,” “not normal,” or “weird”… until almost a decade ago, when I slowly started to speak openly again about a lot of “weird” stuff. But this time there was a knowing inside of me saying:

This is my truth. Nobody needs to understand, go with it, or validate it. I can even be judged for it and that is ok; that is just a sign of misalignment. I don’t compromise about this in my world.

This happened after I finally started to research the Highly Sensitive Person, encouraged by an Earth Angel with whom I felt deeply understood in a completely new way. After so many years of being haunted by the term and disowning this part of me—because I believed that “sensitivity is a weakness”—I had rejected this magical part of myself. Of course, I wanted to be “stronger and harder than life itself,” not a “weakling.”

This Earth Angel asked me a question that shifted something inside me and moved me from judgment and disowning into curiosity:

What if you are normal and the world isn’t?

What if feeling deeply, showing empathy, compassion, and understanding, and prioritizing values, passion, and connection over money, status, and how people perceive us is actually a more aligned way of living?

What if a value- and inner-truth-aligned life needs to be normalized, after so many years of normalizing life‑negating behaviors?

I needed to find out more about this topic. Was there something to this? Could it be an advantage? Could I utilize this trait in my favor?

I began reading The Highly Sensitive Person by Dr. Aron. Little did I know this was just the first step in many years of research, culminating in my Master’s thesis on the effects of leadership on highly sensitive employees and their wellbeing, and weaving together with my personal mystical experiences and what I call my awakening (there is a video about this on YouTube).

When we grow up in low‑vibrational environments, having access to heightened sensitivity can be a lifesaver. We learn to walk on eggshells: what is appropriate to say and do, and when is it better to hide? We learn to read the room. We also learn things that, later, you realize do not serve you—and we start to unlearn them…

Today, sensitivity is my superpower.

Over the years there have been many points of deeper reckoning—discovering more and more layers of sensitivity, receiving information through experiences, people, places, research, and challenging situations. Everything is Information!

These have led me to realize that:

  • If we want to perceive "more"—remembering that everything is energy, including the “unseen” realm, starting with our guides, guardian angels, and higher self—if we want to embrace more of our earthly experience, lift the veil, raise our vibration, and feel the vibration of embodiment in every cell of our body, then we actually need to become more sensitive, while embracing our truth, honoring our boundaries, and making conscious choices. We need to stop reacting and start acting consciously, giving ourselves love and grace every step of the way. Our free will is so powerful! Choice = Christ Consciousness!

  • We need to love ourselves unconditionally. Those parts we have judged, disowned, and tried to separate from—this wounded inner child—is in need of unconditional love. It has had enough judgment, it has been sitting alone, unseen, unheard. When we notice these parts we have put in the shadow, we are invited to stop judging them as “bad” or “not good enough,” and instead give them understanding and the unconditional love they long for. One of the practices I grew to love is Louise Hay’s “mirror work”: simply looking into the mirror and saying, “I love you, Caro.” I say “grew to love” because at first I didn’t feel that way at all. In the beginning it even felt like a lie, and it hurt—and at the same time, it was exactly what I needed most: love, coming from myself, for myself, for all those parts that were not welcome, not lovable, not enough in the environment I grew up in. Slowly, I began to realize that the love I had been constantly looking for outside of myself would never come in the way I hoped, because it needed to arise from within. I needed to give myself and be the love I was looking for.

  • We all have our blueprint. We come into this world with a beautiful song arising from our hearts. During life, limiting beliefs of unworthiness, fear, shame, and so on distort this beautiful song. We need to remember the original melody by listening to our heart. This is the process of unlearning what no longer serves us. This is how we uncover the diamond—the essence—that we are: by gently removing the layers of dust that cover its glow. We come here to shine our light. Our story can help others by showing a possibility, by inspiring, by reminding one another that we are infinite, that we are love, fractals of the All That Is.
